Three layer security for EVMs at counting centre: Collector

A three layer security has been placed to safeguard the Electronic Voting Machines in the counting centre at the Government Engineering College and all arrangements for vote counting is on said the Collector cum District Election Officer, Rohini R.Bajibakhere.

The collector said that the election in the district was held smoothly on April 18. The EVMs used in polling booths in the six constituencies of Edappadi, Omalur, Veerapandi, Salem South, Salem North and Salem West constituencies have been sealed in the presence of political parties and kept safely under tight security in the strong room at the Government Engineering College, Karuppur. A three level security comprising Central Armed Protection Force (CAPF), Salem District Armed Reserve Police, Salem City Police have been placed to ensure tight security.

Arrangements have been made for political parties to monitor the strong room 24 hours through LED screen connected with the CCTV camera. Separate counting rooms have been arranged for every assembly constituency.

Each counting room will have 14 counting rooms. Special arrangements have been made for checking the VVPATs. Stating that all arrangements for smooth counting is going on the Collector said that, one week before the counting (on May 23) all arrangements for smooth counting of votes will be completed.

The Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) which were used for demonstration to the public and for training polling officials were returned under armed security force to the central EVM ware house in Thiruvallur on Wednessday. District Revenue Officer, R.Divakaran, Personal Assistant to Collector (General), A.Thyagarajan, Special Election Thasildhar Thirumavalan were present.
