Love Jihad victim Hadiya was back in Shivaraj Homeopathic College and Research Institute, Salem today a day after she was freed from parental custody by the Supreme Court on Monday.
She drove into the college at Shivadapuram by car at about 7.30 pm escorted by two women police (one from Kerala and another from Coimbatore) and two other women whose identity could not be established Hadiya’s father K.M Asokan who was directed by the apex court to accompany her to college was not present.
Hadiya handed over a letter of request to the principal to permit her continue her studies and stay in the College. The authorities took her to the hostel as her stay was prepared ahead after the Supreme Court directed the college to do so and ensure her wellbeing. Dr G.Kananan the Principal of the College did not divulge any other details regarding the role of the college during her stay for 11 more months to compl ete her internship. The court had directed the college authorities to play the guardian role.
To a question whether visitors will be allowed to see her he said her parents alone will be welcome and did not reply to a question whether her husband can visit her. She cannot speak to anyone without permission, he said. Dr Kannan added that permission will be sought from the university to continue her internship which she could not puruse after she left college in October 2015. Hadiya who is still Akhila as per college records used to stay in a rented house with college mates at Rajaji Street in Sooramangalam. Now as per court order she will stay within the campus.
When she came out with the police after the intial formaities, reporters questioned her about the developments she replied," I not require police protection for a longer period as as i wish to be under the care of my husband. I have sought police permission to meet him she said. Salem City Police Deputy Commissioner (Law and Order) Subulakshmi said that the security measures have been discussed with the College. While the institution will be responsible for her security inside the campus, the Salem City police will take care of things outside the campus.
Earlier on her when she was huddled in the campus, a group of activists led by Periyar University student Valarmathy who was booked under Goondas Act for her invovement in the Hydrocarbon project movement assmbed in front of the institution and raised slogans but were calmed down by the police.
Meanwhile it is learnt that a group of local lawyers have planned to meet Hadiya on wednessday and see if they can offer legal assistance for local issues that may arise during her stay. It may be noted that the Supreme Court is yet to settle the issue of her going with the husband as yet. It has only granted her wish to continue her education. But Hadiya had expressed wish that her husband shoud be her guardian.
