Two polytechnic students killed in road accident near Magudenchavadi

Two students of Excel Polytehnic, Komarapalayam who were riding on a bike from Sale m towards Sankagiri were run over by a container lorry near Magudenchvadi on Wednessday afternoon and died on the spot.

The tragic accident happened at about 1.30 today afternoon at Varateri in Thazhaiyur about 4 kms from Magudanchavadi on Salem-Sankagiri highway.

The victims were identified as Arun Kumar (19) son of Murugan a resident of S.T.Palayam, Sankarapuram, Vilupuram District and Pravin Kumar ()19, son of Sivakumar, a resident of Kezhakadu, Erode District.

Both are in 1st. year Mechani cal Engineering Diploma and are college hostelers. Both had borrowed their friend’s Pulsar Bike and had come to Salem today.

Returning back, Arun Kumar rode the bike while Sivakumar was on the pillion. While nearing Varateri, thle rider Arun Kumar had tried to overtake a container lorry going in the same direction. The lorry hit the bike from the side and the riders were run over by the rear wheels. Both the young students died on the spot.

It is not exactly known how the accident occurred said the police who are investigating the cause of the mishap. The police are inquiring the people in the area and are on the look out for the container lorry driver M.Chakravarthi (30) of Omalur. The bodies of Arun Kumar and Pravin were removed from the road and were sent to Salem G.H for post-mortem.
