A R Boys A N Mangalam girls bag Salem District volleyball trophy

December 4 The A.R.Boys Volley ball Club and the St.Mary’s Higher Secondary School, A.N Mangalam bagged the Salem District Volley ball trophy in male and female categories respectively.

The three day event that was held at Central Prison staff quarters ground ended Sunday night and the prizes were distributed by Commissioner of Police K.Shankar. The tournament was jointy organized by the Johonson Friends Volley Ball Cub and the Salem District Volley Ball Association As many as 45 teams from various parts of the district participated in the tournament. Eight teams (four each) qualified for the semi finals. Among them A.R.Boys Volleyball Club and Tirupur Kumaran Volleybal Club, Kannankurichi emerged contenders in the finals.

In the girls category, St.Mary’s Higher Secondary School, A.N.Mangaam was pitted against Bharathy Matriculation Higher Secondary School Attur. In the first round of the finals, A.R.Boys scored 23 points against Tirupur Kumaran Volleyball Club which scored 25 points. In the second and third rounds A.R.Boys smashed Tirupur Kumaran Volleyball Club team with 25 and 27 points against 19 and 25 points. In an equally thrilling winning game, St.Mary’s Higher Secondary School team scored 25 points in a the three rounds as against, Bharathiyar Matriculation School’s 18,19 and 21 points.

A.Azhagarasan, Chief Patron, Salem District Volley Ball Association and Manging Director, A. L.C Exports inaugurated the final matches. Commissioner of Police K.Shankar gave away the trophy cups to the winners. A.K Sithiarai Pandiayan, General Secretary, Taminadu, Volleyball Club association , Rev. Fr. Solomon Raj, Principal, Saint John’s Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Rev. Fr. Anotony Raj, Principal, Notre Dame of Hoy Cross, School. Rev. Sr.Roseline were special guests. M.Shanmugavel, Salem District Volley Ball Association gave welcome speech. K.Vijayakumar, Treasurer, Salem District Volley Ball Association gave vote of thanks. S.P.S Anandan, President of the Association presided over the prize giving function.//
