Cosmic challengers bag women’s cricket trophy

Cosmic Challengers beat Lipstick Warriors 60-40 and won the one day Women’s Box Cricket Trohphy held in Mahatma Gandhi stadium on Sunday.

For the first time in Salem’s cricketing history, the women’s box cricket league match was held. The objective of conducting the event in Salem is to encourage and increase women participation in sports at the local level said Rotary Club of Salem Cosmos members who organised the event. Matches began at 7.00 am and went on till 7.00 pm.

Seven teams with ten players each in every team (eight with two substitutes) played thirteen matches with five overs. The teams were Cosmic Challengers (Rotary Club of Salem Cosmos), Metro Rockers (Rotary Club of Metropolis), Agarwal Stayers (Agarwal Sabha Trust) Striking Queens (BNI Salem). Lipstick Warriors (Parshwanth Jain Trust), Swag Sindhis (Salem Sindhi Ladies Chapter), Guts and Glory (Maheswari Mandal) and Scea Super Queens (Civil Engineers Association).

Apart from winners the best performers were also awarded. M.Indira was selected as the woman of the tournament. Priya Jain was the best batter and Aarthi.X was the best bowler.

Amirtha Vaswani Mohan Kumaramangalam and Ranjana Dharmesh Patel gave away the prizes.
