  A differently abled youth who was set on fire near Omalur died this evening.

Police sources said that Karthic 23, a worker in a textile store and son of Kumar 50 of Chinnapagalpatti was consuming alcoholic drinks with his two friends in a vacant land in Pagalpatti Friday night.

When they had the drink, quarrel broke out between the friends and one them poured petrol on Karthic and lit fire on him. The incident is estimated to have occurred between Friday night and today early morning, informed the police.

Karthic sustained 90 percent burns and was under treatment at Salem Government General Hospital (GH) today morning. Police sources said that a full statement from the victim coud not be obtained as he was in a serious condition. A judicial majistrate from Salem Court visited the GH and tried to obtain a statement.

The two persons with whom Karthic consumed drinks have absconded. Only on securing them the motive behind the kiiing could be ascertained said the Omalur police who are investigating the case.
