Measures to boost Yercaud tourism take wings

Turning attention on the softer side of life’s needs, after a two month long deep focus on fighting dengue,the district administration has initiated steps to draw more tourists to Yercaud.

A slew of big measurers have being initiated to make the quaint little hill station a more tourist friendly destination.

Topping the list of measures, is 100 percent completiion of provision of basic amenitiest. A solid waste management programme with provision of vehicles to remove wastes time to time, mobile toilets, sufficient road lights for enhancing night illumination, supply of protected drinking water are the key civic body level measures that have been initiated. In the ast one week garbage generated in Yercaud town is being shifted to the garbage dump yard at Chettichavadi.

Tourist attraction spots are to be given a facelift. They include, making Annamalaiar Tempe hill a view point with a telescope viewing gallery and setting up of a telescope view gallery at Sheveroy Peak. The number of boats for pleasure rides wil lbe increased and walkers path around the lake will be laid.

The Department of Horticulture has been told to improve the flower displays with new variety pants, in the Anna Park, Rose Garden and the new Botanical Garden. Self Help Groups would put up retail sales outlets for local produces like pepper. The Forest Department has been asked to submit a report on the possibilities of eco-tourism in the Sheveroy Hills.

The Collector Rohini.R who reviewed the ongoing works in Yercaud today said that frequent meetings will be convened to monitor the progress of the  District Revenue Officer, R.Sukumaran, District Tourism Officer, Janardhanan, District Rural Development Agency Project Director Arul Jothy Rajan, District Forest Officer, Kiruba Shankar, Scheduled Tribe Welfare Officer, Sundaram, Mahalir Thittam District Officer, Easwaran were among those heads of departments who were present at the review today.
