November 2 Out of the total Rs 100 crore allocation, Tamilnadu wide, minority community members in Salem will be get about Rs 3 crore loan for the year 2017-18 said, Dr M.Vallalar, Director Minorities Welfare Department and Managing Director, TOMCO.
Speaking in Salem Collectotate on friday during a meeting to review welfare of minority community members, Dr. Vallalar said that TOMCO loans will be given to minoritiy communities in support of individual ventures and as micro credit for Self Help Group members (SHG).
In Salem district there are 1, 51, 106 people from minority communities according to year 2011 census. They include 95,408 Muslims, 53,972 Christians, 350 Sikhs, 297 Budhists and 1079 Jains. In the year 2016-17, the minorities in Salem were given Rs 43.52 lakh total loan for individual ventures and Rs 29.93 lakhs as micro credit for SHGs. In the current financial year, it has been targeted to disburse more than Rs 3 crore said, Dr Vallalar.
Wide publicity will be made for the beneficiaries to be informed about the schemes of the Central and State governments inorder to motivate them to avail the same. Officials have been told to track the loan processing, utilization and repayment. A district eve monthly review meeting will be held to review the implementation of various schemes for minorities’ welfare he said.
