Three killed one seriously injured as Adyar Anand Bhavan hotel roof rips off in heavy wind and rain

Strong wind and rain that swept Salem today evening took toll on lives of three persons at Adyar Anand Bhavan Hotel in Neikarapatti.

The tragedy struck between 4.30 to 5.00 pm today. Two of the victims were customers while the other one was a hotel worker from Bihar. The injured is also a worker in the hotel.

According to police sources, as the heavy wind and rain blew, the hallow block wall collapsed and the metal roof above the dining room crashed trapping the people inside the hotel. The deceased persons were identified as Noor Mohamed 40 and Syed Alif 41- both from Erode. The two had stopped on their way to Erode to have food when the accident happened. The Bihari worker who died is identified as Arjun 22.

Another worker who was injured is identified as Ravikumar. He has suffered severe head injury and has been admitted to the Vinayaka Missons Hospital.

The Kondalampatti Police and the Fire and Rescue Department rushed to the place to rescue the trapped persons. The crumbled structure had to be cleared with an earthmover.

The Collector Rohini.R Bajibakhere, Deputy Commissioner of Police Subbulakshmi and other officials visited the place to take stock of the situation. The Police are on the look out for the owner of the building Mr.Venkatachalam. Further inquiries are on.

Heavy wind and rain battered Salem city from 4.15 to 5 pm today. Trees were uprooted in many places while big branches fell on roads, hindering traffic. At Hasthampatti Circle, the traffic signal post fell on the road and the cables were sagging low. However vehicle riders were not injured by the mishap. Icelet droppings was also reported in some part of the city.It is to be noted that Salem is experiencing eractic climatic conditions in the last few days. While the days are touching peak tempreture the evenings are witnessing rains.
